Capcom’s Wilds stumble and Devil May Cry’s victory lap
Monster Hunter Wilds exploded out of the gate as Capcom’s fastest-selling title ever, but enthusiasm fizzled fast, with just 477 K copies shifted in the latest quarter (barely beating four-year-old Rise) amid PC performance headaches and a sparse end-game. Japan-listed shares slid nearly 10%, even though overall operating profit jumped over 90%, prompting Capcom to accelerate patches and reshuffle Wilds’ roadmap.
On the flip side, Devil May Cry is having a moment. DMC5 alone sold 1.78 million units last quarter (taking it past 10.5 million total), while the HD Collection and DMC4 Special Edition racked up hundreds of thousands more. Capcom credits an anime tie-in and smart sales pushes (hello, Humble Bundle) for the series’ surge—proof that short-term stock dips can’t drown out blockbuster profits.
