After a blistering launch that saw Monster Hunter Wilds become Capcom’s fastest-seller ever, the post-release honeymoon has fizzled out: Wilds shifted just 477k copies in the latest quarter (barely ahead of four-year-old Rise’s 389k), thanks to optimization hiccups, scant end-game content and harsh PC reviews. The slump sent Capcom’s share price tumbling nearly 10% in Japan, even though operating profit jumped a whopping 90.8% year-on-year—and the studio is scrambling to rejig its update roadmap to win players back.
Meanwhile, Devil May Cry has been on fire. Devil May Cry 5 sold 1.782 million units in the same quarter (topping 10.5 million overall), plus strong sales for the HD Collection and DMC4 Special Edition, pushing series totals to 36 million. Capcom credits an anime tie-in (despite mixed fan opinions) for the boost. Bottom line: Capcom’s still in rude health—now if only they’d tease a DMC 1 remake…
