Destiny 2’s been bleeding players for years, and Bungie knows why: its onboarding sucks. Assistant game director Robbie Stevens admits that after cutting the first third of the game (hello, Red War and early DLC), new players get lost in a maze of pop-ups, microtransaction pitches and seasonal content pushes.

With the Edge of Fate expansion, Bungie’s dialing back intrusive prompts, keeping newbies out of season loops and revamping New Light to actually make recruits feel like Guardians. They’re even teasing a “Greatest Hits” bundle of key missions from Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken so fresh faces can catch up on the story without a content-vault headache.
