Bungie’s Destiny 2 has been bleeding newbies for years and even assistant game director Robbie Stevens admits the onboarding is basically terrible. To fix that, the new Edge of Fate expansion is just the start—Bungie’s slashing obnoxious pop-ups, stopping the forced dive into seasonal content, and reworking “New Light” so you actually feel like a Guardian instead of wandering aimlessly through tutorials. They’re also cooking up medium- and long-term plans to polish the fresh-player experience even more.

A big part of the problem? The devs vaulted (i.e. deleted) the first third of the game, making it a slog for anyone who wants the full story. While not all that old content will return, fans have floated the idea of a “Greatest Hits” mission bundle from Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken to give newcomers the lore highlights without drowning them in vault gatekeeping.
