Digital Foundry, the go-to source for deep-dive tech analysis of gaming hardware and software, has officially split from IGN and gone fully independent. Originally launched in 2015 as a Gamer Network joint venture, it passed through ReedPop and IGN ownership before founder Richard Leadbetter sealed the deal to call the shots alone—thanking both IGN and Gamer Network’s Rupert Loman for making independence possible.
The move comes amid a rocky period in games media after IGN’s Gamer Network acquisition sparked layoffs and high-profile exits, even as IGN beefs up sites like GamesIndustry.biz and Eurogamer. Digital Foundry believes there’s still room for expert-led, independent coverage and is calling on its community to get behind its next chapter—you can even catch the announcement video on YouTube.
