Video Games Europe just threw some shade at the Stop Killing Games initiative—despite it hitting the threshold to become an EU Citizens’ Initiative, the trade group argues you can’t just force companies to keep online services alive forever. They say shutting down servers is a tough business call made when games aren’t profitable, and players do get fair warning under consumer-protection laws.
They also point out that private servers aren’t a magic fix (hello, data-security and copyright headaches), and that many games are built to be online-only. In their view, the proposed rules would jack up development costs and seriously cramp creative freedom.
