Nintendo’s latest Direct was packed with surprises for both Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. We finally got a release window for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, along with big reveals like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Resident Evil Requiem making the jump to Switch 2. Of course, Nintendo couldn’t resist sprinkling in Mario 40th anniversary goodness—think a Super Mario Galaxy movie, Galaxy 1+2 remasters, Mario Tennis Fever, and even a Wonder-themed Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
But the love didn’t stop at first-party blockbusters. The show also spotlighted an eclectic roster of Switch 1 titles (Tomodachi Life, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Hades 2, Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment), indie darlings like Stardew Valley, classic ports (Pokopia, Fatal Frame 2, Danganronpa 2), and retro throwbacks with Virtua Boy Nintendo Classics. In short: nostalgia, fresh builds, and more hints that Nintendo’s still holding a few aces up its sleeve for the next-gen handheld.
