Virtuos, the co-development studio behind smash hit Oblivion Remastered (and currently tackling Metal Gear Solid Δ), is reportedly cutting about 300 jobs—roughly 7 percent of its global workforce. Bluesky tipster Gauthier “Gautoz” Andres says Virtuos poured “over-quality” effort into the Oblivion project under a fixed-fee, no-royalty contract, leaving its profitability in question despite the game’s blockbuster status.
Ouch: even working on one of 2025’s best-selling titles won’t necessarily save you from the layoff list. Virtuos has contributed to everything from Dark Souls Remastered to Cyberpunk 2077 updates, but budget vs. quality tensions (plus an absence of bonus incentives) seem to have backfired for a chunk of its teams.
