Peak went from a canceled game that couldn't get funding to selling millions on Steam

The unlikely story behind Peak, the hot Steam game that’s sold millions | Polygon

The slapstick survival co-op game was born after a game cancelation almost made the developers completely burn out

After a soul-sucking three-year slog and a canceled sequel prototype, Aggro Crab teamed up with Landfall Games for a month-long game jam in a Korean Airbnb. Between IKEA furniture builds and 15-hour workdays, they turned a loose open-world concept into Peak—a slapstick co-op survival where lost scouts clamber up procedurally generated mountains, punny name and all.

Released quietly on June 16 for just $8, Peak blew up overnight—selling a million copies in a week thanks to memes, streamers, and Breath of the Wild–style stamina shenanigans. Even server-breaking patches couldn’t kill the hype, and the devs have since given the green light to ongoing updates to keep the chaotic climbs coming.
