Peak went from a canceled game that couldn't get funding to selling millions on Steam

The unlikely story behind Peak, the hot Steam game that’s sold millions | Polygon

The slapstick survival co-op game was born after a game cancelation almost made the developers completely burn out

Aggro Crab was fresh off canceling a big sequel prototype and feeling burnt out when they teamed up with Landfall Games for a month-long jam in a Korean Airbnb. Ditching grand ambitions, they whipped up a silly, slapstick survival co-op called Peak—nailing its name over countless dinners and IKEA assembly breaks—and carried the idea home for a low-key June 16 Steam drop at just $8.

Nobody saw the fireworks coming: Peak smashed a million sales in a week, thanks to hilarious puns, meme-friendly vibes and clever Breath of the Wild–style climbing puzzles that make you juggle stamina, hunger and buddy shenanigans. Servers buckled under the load, patches even temporarily broke the game, and the team keeps pinching themselves as they scramble to patch bugs and plan more content for their surprise indie hit.
