Splitgate 2, the hotly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s surprise hit, is hitting pause just weeks after its June launch—“unlaunching” back to open beta. 1047 Games admits it launched too early, so it’s shelving its roadmap, cutting an undisclosed number of staff, and even shutting down original Splitgate servers to trim costs. CEO Ian Proulx says the team will overhaul everything from expensive cosmetics (goodbye $80 skin bundles) to core features like ranked modes, more portal walls and mode-specific playlists, this time working hand-in-glove with the community before a planned early 2026 rerelease.
Despite the reset, Season 3 updates, bug fixes and special events will keep players hooked, but 95% of the studio’s efforts are going toward the big relaunch. Layoffs are already underway (details under wraps), and while the OG servers go dark next month, peer-to-peer or offline play might fill the gap. Proulx even owned up to the missteps—and that infamous “Make FPS Great Again” hat—vowing to learn from mistakes and grind toward a truly polished comeback.
