James Pond’s original creator Chris Sorrell has slammed Gameware Europe’s upcoming sequel James Pond: Rogue AI, saying he “hates almost everything they do with a passion.” He’s furious at the studio’s “lazy, AI-generated bullshit” marketing, regrets getting roped into their shambolic 2013 Kickstarter (which raised only 16% before being cancelled) and feels the series has been degraded beyond recognition.
While he admits the teaser of an extending, twisting robotic suit “looks like fun” in the hands of a skilled designer, Sorrell doubts the rest of the game will show any real creativity or integrity. He’s so disillusioned that he now wants to completely distance himself from the once-cherished James Pond name.
