Chris Sorrell, the original creator and lead designer of the 1990s platformer James Pond, has slammed new rights-holder Gameware Europe’s upcoming sequel, James Pond: Rogue AI, as “lazy, AI-generated bullshit.” He says he “hates almost everything they do with a passion,” regrets backing their shambolic 2013 Kickstarter, and feels duped into associating his name with what he calls a “bottom-feeding enterprise.”
While Sorrell admits the teaser trailer’s extendable, snake-like suit mechanic looks genuinely fun, he doubts the rest of the game will be more than a warmed-over rehash of a 34-year-old formula. His disappointment is so complete that he’s officially distancing himself from the degraded James Pond brand.
