Baldur's Gate 3 originally had a more "cartoon-y" art style before Larian Studios changed their minds about the game's look.

TL;DR: Baldur’s Gate 3 almost went full-on cartoon – Larian’s art team tried a stylized, indie-book look (even scrapping half-done character heads) before pivoting not once but twice to the grounded, saturated realism we see today. That tougher design journey paid off, giving BG3 the visual weight that helped fuel its huge success.

Now, with two new Larian projects in the early storytelling phase (and whispers of a Divinity sequel), here’s hoping one of them finally embraces that fun, exaggerated cartoon style we almost got – I’m here for both!
