Baldur’s Gate 3 nearly went full-cartoon. In a chat on CDPR’s AnsweRED Podcast, Larian’s art director Alena Dubrovina revealed the team experimented with a highly stylised, almost indie-book/cartoon aesthetic—actually gutting and restarting the visuals twice—before settling on the rich, realistic palette and proportions fans know today.
That grounded look arguably helped make BG3 the smash hit it is, but Dubrovina admits she’d still love to see a spin-off (or one of Larian’s upcoming projects) embrace a more exaggerated, cartoony art style.
