Funcom’s new MMO Dune Awakening rocketed out of the gate on June 10, hitting one million players faster than any of the studio’s previous releases (Conan Exiles took a whole year to reach that mark). Despite a few launch-day bugs, fans have already trekked across 25.5 million km² of Arrakis, guzzled 6.1 billion grams of spice and whipped up over half-a-million Ornithopters.
The studio’s riding that “Coriolis storm” of enthusiasm by rapidly patching issues—most notably tweaking the endgame so PvE folks aren’t forced into unwanted PvP brawls—and promising a steady drip of new content. If Dune Awakening follows Funcom’s track record (lookin’ at you, Anarchy Online), it’ll be supported for years to come.
