TL;DR: EA has pulled the plug on its in-development Black Panther open-world game and shuttered new studio Cliffhanger Games, marking the third round of cuts this year. In an email to staff, EA Entertainment boss Laura Miele said these tough moves—along with undisclosed layoffs across its mobile and central teams—are meant to “sharpen our focus” and back the biggest growth opportunities.
Going forward, EA’s doubling down on marquee franchises like Battlefield, The Sims, Skate and Apex Legends, while still pouring resources into its Iron Man and Star Wars Jedi projects, Mass Effect continuity at BioWare, and its mobile arm. The Marvel partnership survives (Motive leads future titles), EA Sports stays untouched… and somewhere in there, everyone’s being nudged back to the office.
